Sarah Stoeckel Is A Home Rule Hero
BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Florida League of Cities recently recognized Titusville City Council member Sarah Stoeckel with a 2020 Home Rule Hero Award.
Stoeckel earned this prestigious award for their tireless efforts throughout the legislative session to promote local voices making local choices, protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s municipalities and advance the League’s legislative agenda.
Home Rule is the ability of a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference.
Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and nonelected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
Stoeckel is a leader in her community who enjoys giving back in a variety of ways.
She works full-time at Eastern Florida State College as an academic advisor and adjunct instructor and enjoys helping others achieve their goals, whether it’s educating them in the classroom or cheering them on toward graduation.
When she is not at EFSC, you can find her at Titusville City Hall, where she proudly serves on the Titusville City Council. Her favorite thing about her role is synthesizing a plethora of data, knowledge, and materials in order to make the best decision possible for the community.
Stoeckel enjoys policy analysis and strategizing new ways to solve current issues. Her research within her doctoral studies centered specifically on the use of social media within government entities as a way to increase transparency, participation, and collaboration.
In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, working out, volunteering in ministry and churches, speaking and giving presentations on various topics, and working on her relationship blog.
