2010-11 Youth Leadership Brevard
YOUTH LEADERSHIP | BREVARD
Prepares youth leaders to meet the challenges facing Brevard County. Please review the following information before completing this application. Note particularly the dates on the Program Calendar
Before applying, please make sure you will be able to attend on these dates. This program is time intensive and should be considered carefully by highly committed students.
Leadership Brevard (YLB)
TO BE ELIGIBLE, APPLICANTS MUST:
- Be a sophomore, junior or senior for the school year 2010-2011 of a Brevard County High School (public, private or home school).
- Be involved in extra-curricular school and/or community activities
- Make a commitment to full participation in the Youth Leadership Brevard program.
- Have a desire to develop and utilize leadership skills
- Have a good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA)
YLB GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A total of 60 hours of participation includes:
- Attendance at orientation session, 7 day-long seminars, & graduation event
- Participation in a YLB Community Action Service project and
- 6 hours of community service activity (in addition to the YLB Service Project)
SELECTION PROCESS:
The Youth Leadership Brevard Committee will review all applications.
This committee will select the 2010-2011 class participants and notify all applicants in writing of the Committee's decisions no later than the week of June 14th , 2010 .

Orientation Session: Tues., August 17, 2010 - Evening Event
Full-Day Seminars:
Monday, September 13, 2010 - In Service Day/Excused **
Friday, October 15, 2010 - In Service Day/Excused **
Saturday, November 13, 2010
Saturday, January 8, 2011
Monday, February 21, 2011 - Student Holiday
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011 - Excused school absence**
Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 -Excused school absence**
Graduation: Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 - Evening Event
With the exception of the orientation and graduation, the sessions are approximately 6 hours (ie., 8:45 am - 3:00pm)
**The Superintendent of Brevard County Schools has approved participation in Youth Leadership Brevard as an 'excused' absence these sessions for Public School students only. Monday, September 13th and Friday, October 15th are currently marked as in-service days and student holidays. In the event of a natural disaster, these days may be activated by Brevard Public Schools as make-up days. In this event, the date has been pre-excused by Brevard County Schools.
HOW THE PROGRAM IS FUNDED:
Tuition for Youth Leadership Brevard is $250,including materials, transportation during seminars, meals, refreshment breaks and other related expenses. Additional funds are raised through contributions from individuals, organizations and companies to cover program costs. A limited number of scholarships may be available (a partial scholarship, up to 80%) at the time of application to the Program.
